Step 5: Assigning Ports to the Billing System

Configure specific ports on your Mikrotik router to work with the billing system for Hotspot and PPPoE services

Overview

In this section, we will assign specific ports on your Mikrotik router to work with the billing system, enabling Hotspot or PPPoE services. This guide assumes you are using a Mikrotik 951 model that has been reset to its default settings (via software reset, not a physical reset).

5.1 Access the Bridge Settings

Navigate to the bridge ports configuration to manage your router's network interfaces:

Step-by-Step Guide:

1

In Winbox, navigate to Bridge > Ports in your Mikrotik interface.

2

You should see a list of available ports on your router. The 951 model has five Ethernet ports (ether1 to ether5) and one wireless port (wlan1).

Available Ports: ether1, ether2, ether3, ether4, ether5 (Ethernet) and wlan1 (Wireless)

5.2 Assign the Wireless Port (wlan1) to Hotspot

Configure the wireless interface for billing settings with Hotspot service:

Step-by-Step Guide:

1

Select wlan1 from the list of ports in the Bridge Ports window.

2

Under the Bridge field, choose hotspot-bridge from the dropdown menu.

3

Click Apply and then OK to save the configuration.

5.3 Assign Ethernet Port 5 (ether5) to Hotspot and PPPoE

Configure an Ethernet port to support both Hotspot and PPPoE services simultaneously:

Step-by-Step Guide:

1

Select ether5 from the list of ports in the Bridge Ports window.

2

Under the Bridge field, choose hotspot-bridge from the dropdown menu.

3

Click Apply and then OK to save the configuration.

Note: Both Hotspot and PPPoE billing services are now running on the same port (ether5), allowing users to connect through either service on that port.

Summary

By assigning specific ports to hotspot-bridge, your router is now configured to use those ports with the billing system.

You can repeat the steps above to assign additional ports if needed. Each port assigned to the hotspot-bridge will be able to handle both Hotspot and PPPoE connections from clients.

Configuration Complete

Your Mikrotik router ports are now properly assigned and ready to work with the billing system.
